Bio

Naomi Panjaitan is a Ph.D. student in Transportation Technology and Policy at UC Davis, specializing in travel behavior, transportation modeling, and public transit. Her recent research highlights the critical role of care trips, such as chauffeuring children, grocery shopping, and running errands, in daily mobility. Her upcoming project will explore how public transit accommodates care trips.

She is currently affiliated with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBL), where she contributes to the development of a household vehicle fleet choice model within the BEAM CORE multi-modal agent-based regional transportation framework. She also works as a Data Analysis intern at the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG), supporting the development of the region’s SACSIM travel demand model.

Riding jitneys, buses, and trains in metropolitan greater Jakarta, Indonesia – as a child, as a working single lady, and then as a mom of toddlers – enriches her with broad understanding and great empathy for transit passengers. Naomi holds a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia. She was awarded an LPDP Fellowship from the government of Indonesia to pursue an M.S. in Transportation Technology and Policy at UC Davis. Outside of research, she loves traveling with her husband and their little children.
