Bailey Affolter is a 3rd year PhD student in Transportation Technology and Policy. Her research interests include Gen Z travel behavior/attitudes toward transit, and the health, mobility, and equity outcomes that come from investment in transit and active transportation facilities. Her vision is for everyone to have access to clean transportation that fulfills their needs and improves their quality of life. She is currently working on a project to assess the impact of the Youth Cruz Free program introduced in March 2023 in Santa Cruz County.
She received her bachelor's degree in Public Health from San Jose State University. One of the highlights of her time there was the daily commute on the Highway 17 Express bus from Santa Cruz to San Jose:
“With convenient frequencies and onboard wifi, I experienced the benefits of reliable shared
transportation. I could work on my homework or rest if I needed to, instead of sitting in traffic or
white-knuckling the notoriously treacherous drive over the Santa Cruz mountains into the Bay
Area”.
